Hello,
I am on vShpere 8.0.3, created a vm like described in the documentation of SuSE Manager 5 “Procedure: Creating the VMware Virtual Machine”.
The vm is created successfully, the vmdk file (from Images) is used as an existing harddisk. EFI and secure boot as boot options are enabled.
Unfortunately the vm does not start, see the attached screenshot. Please help me to find a solution for correct boot process! Thanks and best regards
Stefan
I just did this yesterday and didn’t have any issues.
Did you extract the .vmdk from the .xz archive first?

Yes, first extracted, then copied to host storage, then created machine and replaced first hdd.

I would appreciate, if you could:
- tell me, from where you got your descriptor file?
- present me a screenshot of the files in your vm folder?
- show me a screenshot of the vm config including the boot options?
Best regards
Stefan
Hi there,
Didn’t need descriptor file? In esx when creating the new VM, I click the X to delete the new disk and then click “Add Hard Disk” → “Existing Hard Disk”. Then I select the VMDK from wherever I have stored it on the server.
I didn’t change any of the boot options (apart from using UEFI) or other settings.
Regards,
Michael
