Firefox 52 and Thunderbird 52 display a grey background if a web page does not set a background color. Previous versions use white as default background color. To get back white, create the following two files with the same content:
[FONT=Courier New][COLOR="#000000"]~/.mozilla/firefox/.default/chrome/userContent.css
~/.thunderbird/.default/chrome/userContent.css[/COLOR][/FONT]
