Hi All,

New to SLES, but trying to get the prerequistite for veeam backup for linux installed on a SLES 12 SP1 server

need the DKMS package but it isn’t in the default repository and we can’t enable extended repositories due to another application requirement.

how would i go about installing this?

From a quick internet search I found a thread in the Veeam Community
Forums -
https://forums.veeam.com/veeam-agent-for-linux-f41/unable-to-install-sles-11-sp4-t39987.html

  • but I’m not comfortable recommending that here (not least because it
relates to SLES11 SP4). If Veeam Backup for Linux is supposed to be
supported with SLES12 SP1 I would suggest contacting Veeam directly and
asking them for an officially supported solution (by Veeam and SUSE).

You could also try reading the User Guide for the Veeam Agent for Linux
available @
https://www.veeam.com/pdf/guide/veeam_agent_linux_1_0_user_guide_en.pdf
, in particular the “For openSUSE / SLES” bits in the “Installing Veeam
Agent for Linux” and “Managing Package Dependencies” of the Installation
and Configuration section.

PS A packaged version of dkms 2.3-2.1 for SLE 12 is available from
Packman @ http://packman.links2linux.org/package/dkms/787752

Please note that this package is unsupported by SUSE.

Cheers,

That’s where i got the notes from requiring the DKMS package from, wasn’t instructions in the guide as how to setup the packman repository or where to go to download the package (since we can’t setup the extended repository due to application support issue with another app)

downloaded directly and sorted out the dependancies.

all works!!!
