Hello All

Hey GofBorg:

For some reason today my SUSE account is back to normal, join date of
2008, avatar is back…bizarre.

Not really bizarre. If you visited the SUSE forums within the past
year, your account there remains, even if it was deleted on the Novell
side.

Wow! Michael. Haven’t heard from you in a long while.

I’m like a bad penny…

Apparently this really is Hotel California…next thing you know LLL,
BenS and BenJ will show up.

Hehe - you never know!

Management is good I think. You miss a bit of being in the trenches

On the whole, I’m enjoying it - I still have a foot in the trenches, but
on the technical specification side rather than IT stuff

but good leadership is always welcome and many companies need it.

I’m sure my team would say something similar, while wondering where the
good leadership is going to come from

Cheers
Michael

Wow, now there’s a face from the past. :)

Well, it’s still the same face, just a little older

Sounds like quite the change for you - I’ve also gone through a similar
change (actually, as of a week ago), as I’m now managing a team of
technical writers. :)

Excellent Jim - hope that you enjoy the change as much as I’ve enjoyed
mine

Cheers
Michael

Very much so. It’s been an exciting couple of weeks (well, couple of
years, really) since I started with my current company.

Hey Lance!

I just completed testing and decided to go with OES Linux.
One thing that draws me in is ‘salvage’. Really makes a very
handy recovery tool that you just don’t find an equivalent with other
NOS. I think it’s a useful tool.

OES is a great product and has some great features. I unfortunately have
not worked for anyone who needed OES, many have used SLES and I helped
migrate a retailer from running RedHat to a fully SLES environment.

It is very stable and easy to manage.

I now work for a cloud company and they are more Ubuntu focussed for
their workhorses with other OS’s running on top of that.

I am sure you will have a good time getting to grips with OES. YAST is
your friend.

OES Linux has really matured. It has been working great for me. And
I agree…salvage is a great tool. I tell my users to check that
before coming to me for a restore from backup. I rarely need to go to
my backups due to user errors because of salvage.

KeN Etter sounds like they ‘said’:

So my response to KeN’s comment is…

Wish that was the case here. We usually get a request for a missing /
corrupted file that “the last time they checked it” was 15 - 18 months
ago…sigh
