host b04winterm07 have IP addres = 172.16.16.188 ( win2008R2) with
MAC:
b04winterm07.ami.ua (172.16.16.188) at 00:16:3e:88:00:09 [ether] PERM
on br0

My Enviroment:
XEN1 -----SWITCH-----WS(xp).

From thw WS(xp) i do:
ping 172.16.16.188
and… FALSE !!
arp -a and i see:
172.16.16.188 00-15-17-30-6b-36
This is wrong…

In th WS(xp) runing WireShark and see:
Ethernet II, Src: IntelCor_30:6b:36 (00:15:17:30:6b:36), Dst Broadcast
(ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff)

Where from this MAC=00:15:17:30:6b:36 ??

Xen Server have 2 NIC:

  1. ifconfig eth0
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:15:17:30:6B:34
UP BROADCAST RUNNING PROMISC MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  2. ifconfig eth1
    eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:15:17:30:6B:35
    UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    and one Bridge:
  3. ifconfig br0
    br0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:15:17:30:6B:34
    inet addr:172.16.16.174 Bcast:172.16.255.255
    Mask:255.255.0.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

If “xm shutdown b04winterm07” and on the WS(xp) i do:
Run | cmd
arp -D
ping 172.16.16.188
In the WireShark i see again:
Ethernet II, Src: IntelCor_30:6b:36 (00:15:17:30:6b:36), Dst Broadcast
(ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff)

Hi Serg,

Last April in the SLES Networking forum you asked:
‘Unknown MAC address. Where from ??? Help me, Please !!’
(http://forums.novell.com/suse/suse-product-discussion-forums/suse-linux-enterprise/suse-linux-enterprise-server-sles/sles-networking/436710-unknown-mac-address-where-help-me-please.html)
Now, in the SLES Virtualization forum you ask:
‘Help to find who announces it MAC’
(http://forums.novell.com/forums/suse/suse-product-discussion-forums/suse-linux-enterprise/suse-linux-enterprise-server-sles/sles-virtualization/448491-help-find-who-announces-mac.html)

Sometimes an issue like this requires a lot of troubleshooting to get
the answer and opening a support request with the appropriate vendor may
be the best solution. I find these forums to be most helpful when
someone has already experienced and resolved the same issue as you are
having. Other than that, we can offer a few suggestions that may point
you in the right direction. It would be helpful to know what others have
already suggested but when a new thread is started for the same issue we
sometimes don’t get the whole story…

I don’t have any specific experience with this issue but here is what I
can offer:

  • Can you ping your other DumU’s from your Windows XP workstation or
do you have the same problem?
  • Can you ping your DomU from another DomU?
  • I remember seeing something about switches in one of these forums
but I can’t remember where. If I remember correctly, some switches
have issues when multiple IP addresses appear to originate from the
same MAC address as I believe they do when the switch is connected to
a Xen bridge. Have you investigated this possibility with your switch
    vendor?
