Just a survey about Windows 7 & 8

If your organisation uses XP will it go to Windows 7 or will it go to 8 when
it next changes the PC OS?

We are 75% transitioned to Win7, I don’t see Win8 in the future for
several years (there isn’t even a firm release date, let alone an SP).
It takes a long time for application vendors to add full support for a
new OS, especially in the vertical app space.

We’re still “working hard” with a few vendors that prefer XP and don’t
understand concepts like accounts with user rights and not writing data
back to the Windows system folders.

We were XP, are now almost entirely Win7. Win8 is seen as a “tablet os”

  • we might have some mobile devices using it, but pretty much plan to
    ignore it on the desktop.

Arthur sounds like they ‘said’:

So my response to Arthur’s comment is…

We are still largely XP, but we are slowly moving to win7. The main
‘location’ at win7 is our VDI.

we are 50% moved to Win7 on the desktops - the other 50% will be moved
over by the end of the year. We have no plans of putting Win8 into the
production environment

None of our business clients are Windows 7. They are only just now
beginning the process to see if it will work in their environments.

3/4 of our PCs are Windows 7, the remaining should be migrated within 6
months.

We’ll look at Windows 8 once it has been released. Based on what I
have read on the Engineering Windows 8 blog, I would expect that if
there is enough value for us to move to Windows 8, it should be a
fairly quick transition.

We’re about 75% Windows 7. Needed 64 bit for our main app, but
definitely did not want Vista. The remaining 25% are on XP and
they’ll get upgraded eventually. I don’t see any hurry to go to
Windows 8.

Our school systems are 90% MAC, 9% Linux, and 1% Windows. The Windows
are running in Vmware on MAC’s and are XP. The only reason we have
Windows is to support some very specialized apps that only run on
Windows. And, as long as they run on XP we never intend to move to any
other version of Windows.

100% Win7, migrated from W2k last year.
It will depend on whether legacy apps run well on Win8
and are there game changer apps and hardware to run it as
to whether or not we would adopt. At home though, yes I’ll
be getting it. I’ve really enjoyed working with the DevPreview
and I think it will bring some interesting new tech.

Win7 on some retaining WinXP for legacy apps. -Some of the older legacy
hardware will not support Win8 as an upgrade OS option. We will use
ESXi5 guests’ to run Win8
