KVM switch

Any recommendations for KVM switches? My current ones are old Linksys
PS2 only. I need switches that handle PS2 or USB.

Is it a large environment of 30 or more systems or are you talking about
just a few at home?

Also, when you want PS2 or USB, do you mean for the mouse/keyboard or other
USB devices? Because some support USB but still require PS2.

Small office. I’m looking at a 16 port unit. I currently have 12
devices to connect to it. I need USB for mouse/keyboard. I have a
high end workstation in the rack that does not have PS2 connections.
And I just installed an HP DL380 Gen8 which also does not have PS2
connections.

KeN Etter sounds like they ‘said’:

So my response to KeN’s comment is…

We’re using an Avocent Autoview 2000. Does ps2, usb, whatever over
cat5, just need to get the correct connectors for either end.

I have a TrendNet that handles 4 machines, using USB. Bought it at Micro
Center…paid 39.99 on sale usually goes for 59.99 I believe… no
complaints…have 2 SLES servers and my VMware esxi server connected no
issues

Yeah. I second that.

I used to use HP KVM’s for my old environment. Pricey, but they worked
well and were very adaptable. When you looked at the back you would
actually see nothing but RJ-45 connections for all the devices. Then
you bought adapters for each one, going with either a USB adapter for
USB devices like newer HP servers or going with PS/2 adapters for other
devices. I liked 'em. Plus they were rack mountable and could
actually be mounted behind the slide out keyboard in the same U of
space essentially making them 0U KVMs.

I have the same issue. I am looking around for PS2 > USB adapters that are
compatible with the KVM I have. The small plug in types don’t work BUT I
have one that came with an old Tablet PC that does. Just need to locate
a source for them.

There are numerous adapters out there but you would have to test for
compatability, I haven’t found any of the regular bullet adapters that work.
Still, if you find one that does work, X ports for $15 to $25 each, odds are
it is still cheaper than a new switch and you can retain your present setup.
I have Cybex switches.

I can recommend the Belkin PRO KVM’s we have a couple of the 8-port ones
here, do the job nicely.
