I noticed that the traditional “show desktop” button in the task bar of GNOME is gone since 3.x version. This is extremely inconvenient when we want to see the files in our desktop with multiple windows are opening. However, I found a gnome-shell-extension called “minimize all” which can minimize all open windows and show us the desktop. Our conveniences are back with this useful tool.
Hi
Not sure how this differs from overview mode either via hitting the
‘super’ key or mouse up to the hot corner (top left)?

it is totally different from the function you mentioned. If we hold super key or move the mouse up to hot corner, it only show the potential applications. However, if we click this bottom, it minimizes all windows and shows folders and files in the Desktop. It is quite often that we would like to open a file/folder in the Desktop instead of switching to a opened software. The super key is not able to do this.
