NMI received for unknown reason

Hi All,

My linux server use HP DL385 suddenly these message appear on putty terminal :

Which generation of DL385 server are you using?

Have there been any recent changes to the server, either hardware (inc. BIOS) or software (updates and/or configuration)?

We use HP ProLiant DL385 Gen10 System ROM A40 v1.34 (10/02/2018), System ROM Date 10/02/2018
Since had bought it on March 2019, never do any changes for Hardware or Software.
We use Suse Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP 4.

Has the server been patched (i.e. SLES updates installed) since the server was bought/installed in March?

Presumably, since SLES12 SP4 was available in March, you installed the server with SLES12 SP4 (as opposed to say SLES12 SP3 then upgraded to SP4)? Do you recall whether you used a SUSE/HP installation kit as per https://drivers.suse.com/hpe/HPE-Servers-Gen10/ ?

This was linked from https://h17007.www1.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/exceptions/sles_exceptions.aspx which lists SLES15 and SLES12 SP3 with latter requiring the installation kit. Unfortunately it doesn’t list later versions of SLES i.e. SLES15 SP1 or SLES12 SP4.

I’ll also note there is a newer BIOS available for your server, version 1.44 released at the end of June, as well as an updated HP Service Pack (is that installed)? See https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/km/product/1010268410/Product#t=DriversandSoftware&sort=relevancy&layout=table

First time installation on Server HP DL385 Gen10 we use SLES 12 SP4, not SP3 we never used installation kit because we didn’t know this link https://h17007.www1.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/exceptions/sles_exceptions.aspx.

We directly use SLES 12 SP4 without SP3 and installation, so what should we do ? Should we download installation kit and could it be applied ?

About BIOS vesion, you are right, we must upgrade BIOS to version 1.44. Later we will conduct schedule to do it.

Given it’s been over 8 months since SLES12 SP4 was released I think there is no installation kit required for SLES12 SP4 on the DL385 Gen10 but I’ll ask my contacts at SUSE.

I would look at updating all BIOS, firmware, etc. to latest. I’ll also note from HPE’s SPP OS Guide @ https://downloads.hpe.com/pub/softlib2/software1/publishable-catalog/p177230449/v138524/SPPOSGuide.pdf (linked from https://h17007.www1.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/suse_linux.aspx ) that the current production Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) 2019.03.1 added support for SLES12 SP4 - is that installed?
