No Network Devices

I was updating satellite server from SLES11 SP3 to SP4 and looks like I made the wrong selection – now the entire “Network Devices” section is missing from YAST.

When I look in /etc/sysconfig editor, the settings are there.

No luck researching but I’m guessing I need to re-install from DVD. Any other hints or suggestions?

Thanks,
Neil

If you mean you were updating SUSE Manager 2’s main server (which is based
on spacewalk), and if you were doing so via SLES media, that was probably
a bad idea. SUSE Manager is a software appliance, meaning you should only
do updates/upgrades via its own channels, not via external media.

Yes, you probably need to rebuild that thing, or better yet restore the
whole thing from a backup if available.

If you are using BtrFS for the root filesystem, you may be able to go back
to a prior snapshot, but doing that on SUSE Manager 2.x is likely not done
since it always went to ext-based filesystems by default, unfortunately.
SUSE Manager 3 is an add-on to SLES 12, so a lot more flexibility for how
a system is built now.

Good luck.

if this is about updating a regular SLES server, have you checked if “yast2-network” is installed? If not, adding that package may already bring back that YaST section.

OTOH, you have not mentioned if you’re only missing the YaST part of networking, or if further networking pieces are missing. If the latter is the case, more details may help us in helping you better.
