Printer madness

Have a machine that was just placed after being re-imaged. Running
win7 64 bit, fully patched.

Support person connected the usb attached hp lj 2300 and things have
gone quite wonky since.

Printer installed with PS drivers, which windows kept saying were
incorrect. Unplugged printer, rebooted, lj 2300 ps keeps showing up,
unable to delete the PS drivers as machine says they’re in use.

Finally got some pcl drivers on the machine and an hp lj 2300 pcl
printer shows up now, however the PS one keeps showing up.

Any good ideas on how to remove the PS drivers and make that printer
quit showing up every time the machine boots?

Have you tried removing it via the command prompt printui /s? The
installed printer drivers are listed there and there’s a remove
option. And if you have already tried that, nevermind. LOL

I’ve never come across that command - very kewl!

Susan sounds like they ‘said’:

So my response to Susan’s comment is…

I’ve tried that, just not via the actual command.

Unable to delete the drivers as they’re ‘in use’ by the printer that
keeps showing up even when not physically connected.

I…

printers

Have you stopped the print spooler first? I had a similar problem a
couple of years ago, and if I remember, part of finally getting rid
of the stupid thing was stopping the print spooler, then the driver.
It may also have involved going into safe mode, but that could have
been a different issue. I hate printers, too. The only printer I
loved was my HP IIIP. Well, I love my large format Epson, also, now,
but pretty much every other printer I ever had to deal with,
personally or professionally, was a pain in the okole!

I just did a search and came across this:

Further searching seemed to indicate that the trick is to stop and
restart the print spooler, and IMMEDIATELY delete the driver. So
you’re deleting the driver BEFORE the print spooler actually gets
itself started and grabs onto the printers. : )

I repeatedly suggested ditching printers and hiring monks instead.
Lower maintenance costs, and their output looks really impressive.

Shaun,
Think you’ll find there’s prior art on that joke.

Uwe Buckesfeld sounds like they ‘said’:

So my response to Uwe’s comment is…

Ha! Works for me.

KenL,

I wouldn’t use them. They spell things funny.

Kgroneman,

we know Americans have short attention spans: that’s why you had to

Most people here are still trying to figure out what “tuppuns a bag”
means in the Sound of Music song.

I love the English people. The country that birthed modern democracy.
The country that stood almost alone against evil agressoin at various
times in the recent past. A great nation and people that have
contributed more than significant knowledge and humanity to this world.
