Pure-ftpd not working on SLES 10.4

We currently upgrade some Linux Enterprise servers from 10.2 to 10.4. Now ftp is no longer working, when try to use ftp we get the error “425 Sorry, invalid address given”. After this we try to restart pure -ftpd with “/etc/init.d/pure-ftpd restart”, but it failed one some, but on other it started. But ftp still is not working, same error.

Any suggestions that can help us to resolve this?

the response you receive (425) is already a response of your FTP server, most probably received when trying to fetch data from the server (retrieving a directory listing or fetching some file). As it is usually caused when client and server cannot establish the data connection and you receive this right after upgrading, I’d assume that the firewall settings of the upgraded server have changed.

Of course it might be helpful to take a look at the FTP server log and/or check if the FTP server configuration file was replaced during upgrade, creating relevant differences in configuration.
