replacing Google Reader

So … the end is in about 6 weeks. :frowning:

I’ve used it a lot to get interesting tech news, etc. via RSS feed.

Haven’t found out a way to add RSS feeds to G+ … if there is a way at
all to do that.

Any suggestions on an alternative?

TIA.

http://lifehacker.com/5990881/five-best-google-reader-alternatives is a
list from LifeHacker. I’ve tried several different ones, and none of
them comes close to being as easy and quirk-free as Google Reader. I
use a Kindle fire for news reading, and tried Pulse, which I hated,
Flipboard which I can’t even remember what it was like, and settle on
something called Taptu.

Taptu was the closest I found to Google Reader, and it’s not close
enough. Navigation is somewhat quirky, in trying to use it the way I’d
like to.

So I’m bummed. I keep hoping someone will take over Google Reader and
just call it something else. I think if G+ could handle RSS, Google
would have mentioned that in their announcement about the reader, but
I’ll be happy to be proven wrong, if someone knows otherwise.

Have you tried any other readers? : )

Thanks for the feedback.

Upon hearing the news of iGoogle being shut down (done next November), I
moved my RSS feeds to Reader … only to hear that is shutting down!
Aaarrrrgggghhh!

I’m sure that there are millions of Google account holders who wish
iGoogle & Reader were sticking around. Like a lot of Google account
features, they are very useful.

I was trying to not create /another/ on line account. Looks like I’ll
need on to have a web based feed aggregation.

I’ll check the LifeHacker article.

I’d previously found this another LH article on replacing Reader.

Web based:

NetVibes, Newsblur, Feedly, & The Old Reader (which gets good reviews)

The article comment section has some good feedback too.

I use the RSS reader in Firefox.

How?

I’d love to try NetVibes and The Old Reader, but neither have a version
that works on the Kindle. So I’ll just keep using the Google Reader
until they take it away. I already had links to everything I read on
the reader, so won’t lose the list. Maybe by then there will be
something closer to the Google Reader to switch to. : )

I use Feedly now, found it to be an easy migration, and it’ll import your
Reader feeds.

I also like the web based RSS feeds. Got away from desktop apps when I
started using all the features that come with a Google account.

There is a way to capture feeds from Reader. Google Takeout. You can
export your data from selected or all services. Then import the RSS
feeds into something else.

I have hope too that Reader will remain.

I plan to try Feedly, Old Reader, NetVibes, & NetBlur

Haven’t tried browser plugins … yet.

This article should prove helpful.

Add a new bookmark and point it at the RSS feed URL.
