Swapping to a new laptop at work. For any of you that still use nntp
to access the forums, what reader do you use?
I’ve been using Xana, but have been on v1.18.1.6 and not sure if
there’s a newer version anywhere. More than likely I’ll just use Xana
on this one, just wanted some more input.

Thunderbird on RH Linux, OSX and Windows7. Like the ability to copy the
same profile folder to each OS.

I don’t mean to sound rude but is it still being developed?[/color]
The way I look at it is that the NNTP protocol hasn’t changed in a
bazillion years, why should NNTP clients? I just look at what’s
avaliable and pick what fits my needs. I have run various clients for
a long time. Virtual Access, Pan, Knode, Thunderbird, and now
XanaNews. Different clients have different strengths. You can’t beat
the search built into VA, and I love the ability to customize the look
of XN.
1 - Customized colors/fonts. Threads I don’t participate in are black
with a strike out line in them. Unanswered root posts are red.
Threads I participate in are purple. My messages are green, etc. etc.
2 - A drag to window that’s like a bookmark. If there’s a message I
need to research or act on later, I just drag it to that window and it
stays there until I delete it from that window. That way everything I
need to take action on or reply to is in one place, no matter what
forum it’s really in.
3 - Self contained so I can put it on a flash drive and carry it around.
4 - Customizable keyboard assignments including key combinations
5 - The ability to order the forums as I want to see them in the forum
list

I used XN when I ran windows and I also looked at migrating the code to
run in Wine a long time ago.
I did like it then. Now I don’t spend much time on news groups as most
of the places I work at don’t allow it.
And when I am home all I look at is this forum.
