Have been doing a demo with Sesam and was wondering if anyone else uses
this backup product. If so, what is your opinion on it. I currently
house a Unitrends device for backup, which I am happy with. The only
difference is that SEP’s software seems to be better at recovering a
bare metal sles11/oes11 system than my current vendor.

Excellent product, excellent support, provided you keep up maintenance.
UI takes a while to get used to as the way you approach things is quite
a bit different from say ArcServe.

Thanks for the Reply Anders! That one thing I noticed is the UI is much
different and how you set backups. The only other things I’m not
thrilled about is they charge per agent like most other backup vendors
and you have to provide the hardware and os. Unitrend’s does not do it
that way, you can backup as many machines as you want to a device, space
is the only issue which is not expandable unless you upgrade to a bigger
appliance.

They have different licensing models though. There is one IIRC that will
ley you back up 10 VMs

I thank you again for your feed back. I’m about ready to start talking
and figuring a cost out with them. My environment is small and does not
change very often. I have 6 machines I backup and all but one is bare
metal. 3 Windows, 2 sles/oes and 1 netware still! One of the Windows
machines is a vm.

Now I was just looking at switching from ArcServe to Sesam! Will be
moving my Netware 6.5 sp5 server to OES soon, and I want a solution that
will cover all my SLES servers, maybe even a few local systems.
If you have more to post on your experience please share. Anders, thanks
for your info on the diff b/w ArcServe and Sesam, good to know.
I also am considering using an EMC VNXe series unit for the storage,
supposed to work with any major backup program (also comes with its
own).
