Server spamming Attempting to checksum a non-TCP/UD

Hello!

Running a sles 11.2 xen 3.0.51-0.7.9 server with several xen VMs.

/var/log/messages spamming error:

kernel: [608030.834015] Attempting to checksum a non-TCP/UDP packet, dropping a protocol 1 packet

The server has also randomly crached/lost network a couple of times.

Im not finding any useful information on this on the internet. What might be the problem?

Im hoping to find a solution to the kernel-errors… and then hope that it will solve the problem with the server hangs aswell.
Since logs dont say anything but the kernel-error above im clueless right now.

Thank you

/snemil

Hi snemil,

are you running the latest patches for SP2? I’sd like to verify if this might be a netback problem, but would need to know against which patch level to check.

Jens

I know it probably doesn’t help, but I do not know what you have seen
online, so I’ll possibly repeat some of that. First, one older report
with an older kernel attributed this to a bug in the netback driver:

#warning, lines possibly wrapped in some views
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/xen/users/172847?do=post_view_threaded#172847

I do not know much about netback, but this other thread seems to be useful:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/xen/devel/172841

Good luck.

I currently have some patches to run on the server. I guess ill try to run them asap and reply if the problem havent resolved.

even if that doesn’t solve the problem (and I wouldn’t hold my breath here), it will make opening a service request much easier…
