SLES 12 torrent?

greetings,
I’ve been trying to download sles 12 for over a week now and each time either the download terminates abruptly or the md5sum fails. Does anyone know where I can download sles 12 via torrent. I never have problems with torrent downloads.

SUSE do not provide a torrent for SLES. You’re not trying to save the download to a FAT filesystem which has a 2GB file size limit, are you?

No. ext4 file system.
It seems that the generated download link may only work on the system that it is generated on. I can’t download on the system I browse with due to file download file size restriction. So I use the generated link on one of my servers which has no gui. Since I can’t get a generated link on the server, I tried to just download the link from wget on the command line but at various points it breaks. Sometimes as little as 2 meg, other times 2 gig but never completes. here is a typical session:

Oh, I see. I have done this, multiple times. E.g. use Firefox to get the download url then ssh in to my NAS box and run wget under screen to download the iso. The trick is in the cookies. Assuming you’re using Firefox, install this Add-On
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/export-cookies/
if you’re not using Firefox find a way to export your web browser’s cookies in to a Netscape standard cookies.txt file. Copy the cookies.txt to the machine you’re running wget on, then

$ wget --load-cookies /path/to/cookies.txt "https://download/url" -O whatever.iso

For future reference, wrapping stuff like the output of commands in CODE tags makes it more readable and prevents the forums from applying formatting to it. Look for the # button in the toolbar when composing.

Thanks Mike. That did it. :wink:

I spoke too soon. I’ve done the cookies thing and it starting fine.But after around 75% it died again. Now it just dies after a few bytes again. Is there any direct download link?

The only links to the isos are the ones you’ve found. Direct link to where? I’m not sure a different link is going to help you. It sounds like the problem is probably not where you’re downloading from but the stability of your 'net connection. When you download from suse.com the actual iso comes from somewhere on the Akami content distribution network so you should be downloading from the mirror closest to you.

I’m afraid I don’t know what the solution is to downloading the iso if you can’t get it all in one go, it’s not a problem I’ve ever had. (The last iso I downloaded from SUSE was SLED 12, 4GB, took less than 10 minutes.) You’re using -c in the wet command you originally posted, does that not work to resume a broken download?

I’ve just realised you don’t need to bother with cookies. On the download page there’s a link ‘how to use a download manager’ which describes using wget with no mention of cookies. I just tried the download and it works find without cookies. Now I think about it the most recent times I’ve fed wget cookies from Firefox to get isos from SUSE I was doing it for isos of restricted access beta versions.

You might try using aria2c to download it - that might help with resuming
and using multiple connections to attempt the download.

Thanks guys,
I’ll try the aria2c and see if that works. I’ll get back to you both.

Hey guys,
Here’s the result. As you can see it completed after only a few bytes. This is not a link breaking issue. I started with no partial download and the server I’m using has a very good link. Am I using a wrong url? I copied it directly from the Suse download page.

I would expect to see

~&mirror=AkamaiHost&nohost=false

on the end of that url. All the download urls I get have that on. Though I just tried omitting it and the link still worked.

What is the output of

$ file /home/i6net/DL/SLE-12-Server-DVD-x86_64-GM-DVD1.iso

Maybe it’s text and there’s a clue in it. Maybe.

I just download the iso with wget in 48 seconds. :confused:

I looked at the output of SLE-12-Server-DVD-x86_64-GM-DVD1.iso.
I didn’t see anything obvious.

BTW, what is on the 2nd 4GIG DVD? More apps or source code?

It’s sources. The .src.rpm. Unless you know why you want it, you don’t need it. :wink:

It would be super helpful if the download page bothered to explain this but for some reason it doesn’t, none of the download pages for the various product isos do.

Thanks for everything Mike. That sure save me a lot of stress. :slight_smile:

I guess my re-hosted in chucks version worked for you then. Still curious why you had so much trouble with the official download though.
