SLES 9 Install on a Dell Optiplex GX520 - No hard disk found

Hello all,

I’m an educator working with SLES 9 in an educational environment. The lab machines we have to work with are Optiplex GX520s. During the installation of SLES 9, under the normal install and ACPI Disabled install, no hard disks are found to install to. This also occurs under a manual install. I have not yet tried the safe settings option.

I’m curious as to what the source of this issue is, as there is a functional hard drive attached. The drive housed Windows 7 before trying to do a clean SLES 9 install, and presented no errors prior to install.

Thank you very much!

I am not familiar with the GX520. From what I can see on the Dell
Website, Linux is not listed as a supported OS.

SLES 9 is /very/ old. The current version is SLES 11 SP2.

A missing or incorrect driver is the most common reason for not seeing
a hard drive. The solution is to get the latest driver(s) from the
hardware vendor’s website. Unfortunately, I didn’t see one although I
admit I didn’t spend a lot of time looking.

I’d suggest trying to install the current version of SLES to see if
that works. You can download a trial version.
