Through some pretty poor support from HP or partner I have ended up with SLSE 11 SP2 on a new HP Proliant ML330.
The server is not yet in production but it seems to be going ok apart from the LTO-3 tape drive on a P212 controller not being recognised by SLES. SLSE 11 SP2 is not on HPs supported list although it may be at some point soon as I see Deel seem to be offering it.
Should I go back to SLSE 11 SP1 or persevere with trying to get the tape working. It is a new server and I would prefer not to have to migrate it ideally within 5 years.
Thanks, steve

You have to allow tape access through a cciss device (not sure about the P212).
See: http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man4/cciss.4.html
Look for the engage scsi part in particular.
