Hi,
i was wondering if there is a prefered way to migrate traditonal Clients to Salt.
I want to keep the Channel Subscriptions and Eventhistory for each System and was wondering if i could use the Reactivation Key Feature for that?
I tried it for one system but sadly it didn’t seem to work
# cat /etc/salt/grains
susemanager:
activation_key: re-1-80fe21d19ee1687bd0c430aa68ed3d06
Do i have to manually reregister each system as a salt client or is there a more ‘elegant’ or automated way to switch from osad to salt?
Thanks in advance
Malcolm
Just follow the “registering a salt client” steps as described at https://www.suse.com/documentation/suse-manager-3/book_suma3_quickstart_3/data/preparing_and_registering_clients_salt.html
This will convert a ‘traditional’ client to a ‘minion’
Ok i’ve already tried that way
I ssh’d onto the machine with the traditional osad client and followed the steps in the Documentation. But as soon as i accept the minion in the “Salt > Onboarding” the machine loses all information about subscribed channels.
It keeps the history and the group assignments but the subscribed channels are gone.
Greetings

Hmm, that probably shouldn’t happen. Please file a support request and engineering will have a closer look.
