I am currently providing wifi in my building with a simple Linksys
wireless router. This is only for internet access - no access to my
network - and is used by guests and employees. I would like to
provide wireless access to my network for employees. But I want
something that requires them to login using their network username and
password. So I need a device that can verify this via LDAP. Servicing
an 18,000 sq ft building and 60 employees - so not a big system - need
something inexpensive. Suggestions?

Take a look at authentication using a Radius server. Many inexpensive
devices support Radius Authentication.
how about Meraki?
Very cool solution, great price and stupidly simple to setup - really,
really simple.
I setup radius on OES for the authentication - not even slightly
simple. But the Windows version is much easier. (I have noticed that
happens a lot)

The thing with Meraki it is in “the cloud” so it is less secure than
simply adding a radius server.
Meraki is indeed in the cloud - but the radius implementation is behind
the firewall and only between the AP and the radius server - so no cloud
is involved.
I would say freeradius in an OES/edir environment is one of the least
documented solutions out there.
There is some documentation, but most of it is extremely out of date
and/or very limited.
Most of it is for the freeradius V1 and all of it is hacking about with
a gazillion different config files.
I have it working, but only after lots of painful experimentation.
Unless you like complex rules and figuring out how to make it all work,
do yourself a favor and choose another radius server
