will console respond to alt+sysRq+c keys to trigger kdump?

Hi,

One of our SuSE server hung last week. It is SuSE11 SP1 VM hosted on VMware infrastructure.
We were not able to ping or get to the login prompt at the console and decided to restart the server.

We are now planning to setup the system for kdump/kernel dump captures, when the next time the issue occurs.

Since we could not get to the login prompt on the console, will console even respond to the alt+sysRq+c keys to trigger kernel dump?

Please comment or point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

The SysRq key combination will only work if the system still
resonds to keyboard input - please see TID 3374462 [1]. Given its
a VM I’m guessing a serial console wouldn’t be possible.

HTH.
