Given that both of the CLA exam slots on the Friday after SUSECon are
now full is there any chance that SUSE could schedule an additional slot
11am-1pm?
Whilst both the CLP exam slots have spaces you need to have passed the
CLA exam before you can be awarded the CLP certificate so there seems
little point sitting the CLP exam instead.
Thanks.

Interesting, I assumed (there is that word again) CLP could be achieved on it’s own… So one needs to get his/her CLA between here and there
I received my CLP, way back in the day, without the CLA. I thought the
CLA was multiple-choice as well, so it does not seem to be relevant as a
pre-req. I think I have the CLDA and CLA now, but I know last year when I
renewed my CLP that I was not asked, “Do you have the CLA?” first.
So Simon, where are you seeing this requirement? Did I slip through
(ssshhhhh) or is this a new thing?

Good luck.

“Note: SUSE Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) certificate required to
receive SUSE Certified Linux Professional (CLP) certificate. When you
pass the CLP exam, you will not receive the CLP certificate unless or
until you have passed the CLA exam.”

Yes, the CLP 11 requires CLA as a pre-requisite, or an earlier CLP such as CLP 10.
The requirement for CLA 11 was introduced with version 11, and the logic is that the CLA exam (multi-choice) allows us to test a wide breadth of knowledge, and the CLP exam (hands on) tests depth of knowledge and practical skills on a smaller, tightly focused set of objectives. In that way we can assure that anyone with CLP has both a good grounding in general Linux administration as well as the depth of practical skills on selected important topics.
