I need to put arrows on some screenshots for users - e.g click this button
etc. Does anyone know of a freeware program for doing this type of thing?
If it’s just pasting little png/gif arrows, use the Gimp. Open the
original, copy the arrow, export out to your favorite format. Couldn’t be
much easier.
Good luck.

Gimp, Inkscape - even Microsoft Paint could handle this.
Personally, I’d be inclined to use Inkscape, though if you use non-black
arrows, there is a tweak to the SVG that has to be done to get the arrow
heads to fill in with the line fill colour.
You can import your screenshot image, draw SVG on top of it, and re-
export as an image.

You could just position your mouse pointer to the appropriate place
before taking the screenshot.

FastStone Capture, the free version. It can highlight, do arrows and
all sorts of other things. It’s a screen capture program, but if you
right click on the little toolbar, you get a menu where you can open
any image file and then work on it from there. I use it all the time
for genealogy images, to point things out in them when doing a write-up
about them.

Change your mouse pointer to one of those giant ones and put it where it
needs to point before you take the screenshot.
Thanks everyone for the replies. Susan - this one works well. Thank you.
