Hey there,
hope someone can help me with my old system
I just cloned an old SLES 11 hardware installation to a VM via Clonezilla device image. VMware Converter hasn’t worked. So everything changed in this case.
The first boot gave me the following errors:
After that I tried to boot it up via SLES 11 DVD/ISO via “Repair Installed System” >> “Expert Tools” >> “Boot Installed System”. This worked after changing the entries in fstab. I used the naming scheme like sda1, sda2, etc. and not the by-id naming.
But now I don’t know how to proceed. There are mass of manuals out there on the internet.
I tried reinstalling Grub with this how to: Reinstalling GRUB from the Rescue System | Support | SUSE
But it doesn’t change anything in the bootloader menu. There are always the old harddrive by-id identifier.
I also tried to change the device.map manually and also changed the menu.lst file to include the sdaX scheme. But without luck. It is always the same error at boot time like in the first screenshot. The only thing that changed in the error is the disk identifier. It uses the sdaX ones. But it still can’t boot up.
What else do I need to do to get it up running?
