I heard a segment on a talk show this morning and couldn’t believe what
I was hearing. A quick Google search turns up dozens (hundreds?) of
sites with this story - most of which started appearing only hours ago.
There have been a lot of articles in the last couple of years on
“cloaking” technologies. As of the last time I saw anything that wasn’t
including smoke or mirrors, the science is coming but isn’t here yet.
Perfect cloaking has been achieved… with certain wavelengths
(microwaves as I recall… but who cares since we mere mortals use the
visible light part of the spectrum) and often for small areas (as in,
maybe centimeters) but who cares since we tend to be larger.
The demo in the video could be done with $100 in materials right now;
get a white piece of paper and projector which projects what is behind
the girl onto the paper she holds in front of her. Tada!! But now what
if she moves? Now you need a camera behind her. But what if somebody
comes from another angle? Now you need a bunch of cameras, and a bunch
of projectors which hopefully don’t take much power, create much noise,
or otherwise attract the attention of the person seeking the cloaked.
What if it’s nighttime? Well now you need to get a projector that does
so without creating a bright spot in the grass.
Anyway, like most things it’s coming. Quantum computing was similarly
limited… only a couple of qubits for a couple of nanoseconds. Now we
have many qubits for longer periods of time. Next we’ll each have a
quantum computer interfacing directly with our brains, or whatever.

Agreed.
You would think CNN would have considered that and not (willingly) be a
part of a huge hoax. Many of the web sites keep rehashing the same
details but the developers claim to have provided proof to high level
military personnel.
I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more about this in the days ahead.

Keep in mind to hide an airplane, you need a pretty big ipad.

There was a fun take on this on Top Gear - Richard Hammond created an
invisible van. It “required” a very loud diesel generator to drive the
electronics, and had LCD displays on all sides to project camera images
from the other side.
