I just installed a StarTech 2 port PCI Express USB 3.0 card (PN# PEXUSB3524 in my Lenovo RD240 server.
The Lenovo RD240 server. did not come with 3.0 ports so I thought I could add a USB 3.0 card.
The card is working fine but it does not seem to be running any faster than the built-in 2.0 ports.
Will it work with SLES 11.7?
Do I need to load some driver up?
Is there a command that I can run to check this - it is mounted at: /dev/sdb1 /media/disk

Since you’ve twice referred to Suse/SLES 11.7 please can you post the
output from “cat /etc/*release” since there is no SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server (SLES) 11.7 - the latest SLES11 release is SP4 (11.4).

Hi Jim,
I cannot locate your part number PEXUSB3524 but I can find PEXUSB3S24.
The specs on the site state:
The StarTech Technical Specifications deal mostly with the hardware. The performance and compatibility of hardware components depends a lot on the driver. The only mention of software is here:
No specific distributions are mentioned but they do say “LTS versions only” so I imagine there are some restrictions. It is quite possible that the Linux driver does not fully support USB 3.0. You should check with StarTech about this.
Another thing to remember is that you will not see maximum 5 Gbps transfer speeds if the device to which you are connected does not fully support USB 3.0.
thanks for your reply. Yes you are right - It’s not 11.7 - I was things of another product… It is 11.4

Yes you are right! It is PEXUSB3S24 - too big of hurry is my only excuse.
My device is a Tandberg Data RDX QuikStor removable disk drive and it says USB3.0
it comes with a Y-cable, so I plugged the two ends into the dual port StarTech card.

Ah the above tells us you have Micro Focus/Novell Open Enterprise Server
(OES) 11 SP3 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 SP4 so
technically you should be posting in the Micro Focus OES forums …
except this is a Linux issue not OES.
With the external drive connected what does “lsusb -t” report?
