Is SUSE dead now or what?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I didn’t see category that really fit the issue completely. For two weeks I’ve been trying to get a couple of pretty simple questions answered and apparently nobody wants to answer them or take my money already. Twice I’ve emailed SUSE with no answer and when I tried to request a call, the script just freezes and doesn’t even complete. Anyway, if anyone does have any sort of answer my original questions are below, as I still have a couple workstations and several of my own servers that I might be interested in purchasing SLED/SLES for.

First, since the site does not make it clear, what is the differentiation between patches and updates on SUSE? I’m specifically meaning the difference between Basic and Standard support.

Second, is there any time line at all for a SLED/SLES 12 release? There is no information or even mention of it anywhere except from Aug of '12

Hopefully someone will be along soon to respond to your above
paragraph.

I was wondering about this same thing. According to my contacts at
Novell, Basic gives you all patches and updates and Standard adds
Support. The page you saw is not clear about this and I have asked
them to update it.

The following questions have recently been asked by others and answered
in the SUSE Support Forums @ http://forums.suse.com

First, since the site does not make it clear, what is the
differentiation between patches and updates on SUSE? I’m specifically
meaning the difference between Basic and Standard support.

I think https://www.suse.com/support/programs/subscriptions/ should
answer the above.

From the slides for “TT102 - SUSE Linux Enterprise: Technology Roadmap”
presentation given during this year’s BrainShare[1], SLED is expected to
be released mid-2013 (unlike with openSUSE the major version number of
12 does not indicate year of release).

HTH.

I’ll pass this along to the widget developers. What OS & Browser (&
versions) are you using? This shouldn’t happen.

Hi,
Where did you send the email to?
Basic and Standard support both give you the same access to patches.
The difference is in support hours, and time to respond.
Basic is 12x5, Priority is 24x7.

where are you sending the request?

Basic Support, gives you all patches and updates, 12x5 support, with
decent response time
Priority Support, gives you all patches and updates, 24x7 support, and
great response time.
Hope that helps
