Migrating over to Rancher from Docker

We are currently using Sitecore with Docker. To ensure tool uniformity across the organization, we are planning to transition from Docker Desktop to Rancher Desktop. As part of this transition, we want to verify whether Rancher Desktop will support Sitecore and identify the key factors to consider for a smooth migration.

Key Concerns

  • Configuration Setting Changes: Are there any specific configuration adjustments needed for Sitecore to function properly on Rancher Desktop?
  • Docker Compose File: Will there be any changes required in the Docker Compose files for compatibility with Rancher Desktop?
  • Docker Compose Version: we are currently on docker-compose version v2.19.0. Are there any compatibility concerns with this version?
  • Compatibility with Solr and RDS: Are there any known issues or specific considerations when using Solr and RDS databases with Sitecore containers in Rancher Desktop?
  • Networking, Security Policies, and NAT: Will Rancher Desktop support our existing networking, security policies, and NAT configuration
  • Sitecore Image Repositories and Artifactory Access: Will Rancher Desktop seamlessly access Sitecore images from repositories like Artifactory
  • Resource Limits (CPU and Memory): Will there be any changes required to CPU and memory allocation
  • Monitoring and Logging: Is Dynatrace and Splunk connectivity fully supported in Rancher Desktop,
  • Impact on Current CI/CD Pipelines: Will this migration affect our current pipelines, and what adjustments might be necessary to ensure compatibility with Rancher Desktop?
