No updates for SLED11 SP1 OEM at HP 635 Notebook (LH486EA)

Date of purchasing: 22 aug 2011
Purchased without extended waranty, just with 90 days trial updates for
SuSE
(will expired at 22 nov 2011)

No recovery DVD and no any registration code from HP shipped with this
notebook,
just the recovery partition on internal HDD.

I’m trying both without success:

activating Novell Customer’s Center after full system recover and

  • Yast → Novell Customer Center Configuration:

All switches in its default state:
[color=blue]

Hardware Profile
Optional Information
Registration Code
Regularly Synchronize with the Customer Center
[/color]
After pressing [Next] button some dialogs showed (without action
requires) and
following message box at end:
[color=blue]
(from superuser)
Software repositories did not neet to be changed.
[OK]
[/color]

Actual result:
No online repositories connected, only SLED11 local hard drive and
drivers online repositories:

Code:

$ zypper lr -d | awk ‘-F|’ ‘{print $8 }’
URI

http://www2.ati.com/suse/hp/cnb/sle11sp1
http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/repo/HP/bnb/sle11sp1
https://nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/SLED11-SP1-HP-CNB-Unregistered-Updates/sle-11-i586/
hd:///sled11.00?device=/dev/sda1&filesystem=auto
hd:///maintenance-updates?device=/dev/sda1
http://download.nvidia.com/novell/sle11sp1

Expected result:
SLED11-SP1-Pool and SLED11-SP1-Updates repositories will appears into
zypper lr output.
Also I expect SDK will appears in available product (currently list is
empty).

Details:

Into /root/.suse_register.log after configuration NCC at Yast appears

I think the lack of repositories being set up is due to your not
supplying NCC with with a Registration Code. Certainly with non-HP SLED
you don’t get repos unless you supply a Registration Code. If you didn’t
get a Registration Code from HP I don’t see how you’re supposed to get
90 days worth of updates. There’s a guy who works for HP in some
capacity who posts on here sometimes, maybe he’ll be able to clarify.

You could go through the process of ‘downloading a trial version of
SLED’ (http://www.suse.com/products/desktop/eval.html) but stop before
you do the actual download. That will get you a code and I assume that
if you give that to NCC you’ll get the repositories plus 60 days worth
of updates.

Out of curiosity - why did you buy a laptop with an OS on it that only
gets updates for 90 days? I’ve never really understood why HP sell
laptops with an evaluation copy of SLED or why someone would buy one.
People express annoyance about trial-ware that comes pre-loaded on
Windows machines, HP are selling laptops where the OS itself is
trial-ware.

I had similar problems with HP ProBook 4525s. Finally i got a registered
product. In my case, cause failure of registration was that I wrote the
profile data in the NCC by Russian national symbols. After I rewrote
everything in transliterated, registration was completed successfully
and in NCC Systems tab I saw my system. Also I dot an official
repositories.
(http://forums.novell.com/suse/suse-product-discussion-forums/suse-linux-enterprise/suse-linux-enterprise-desktop-sled/sled-updates/419811-can-not-activate-hp-oem-sled-11-recive-updates.html)

Hi !

I have contacted the HP SLED support team.

Could you please tell me which email you used to register your product
(through NCC/YaST, an email is asked, as well as a product name)
Did you first create a Novell Account ? Is your product listed ?
‘Novell Customer Center’ (http://www.novell.com/customercenter/) (use
your email you gave during the initial configuration in order to
register to NCC)

I just received a HP SLED laptop (factory). At first, the repositories
were not enabled. After using YaST->Customer Center, giving a correct
email and just clicking on Next / Finish (without any HP registration
code), I just got the desied repositories.

Regards,

Arnaud

cat /etc/ImageVersion[/color]
14.2.0

In my profile on NCC all fields are filled in english letters (name,
job title, city,…), e-mail status: validated.
But during configuration NCC e-mail never asked from me.
