SLES10 in place upgrade

Have a SuSE10 server running support pack 2 and need to bring current to support pack 4. Server is also running OES2 support pack 1. Tried to bring server current using online methods, but none work. After running move to scripts, it pull the right packges, but server still show old versions so it errors out on trying to install the patches. Recommended to do in place upgrade, but I have never done one in that fashion. I would assume I just use the SuSE10 sp3 media and boot off that and choose update. Have been told you can point it to local root partition and copy the oes2sp2 media there so you can add that as well. Are there any gotchas that I should look out for in this process? Once I get it to SuSE 10 sp3, I would assume you would register the server again to tyr and apply all the post sp3 patches as well. Any advice would be appreciated.

Firstly since you have OES you should post in one of Novell’s OES
support forums @ forums.novell.com.

Since you have OES2 SP1 (on SLES10 SP2) and want to get to OES2 SP3 (on
SLES10 SP4) - you need to patch both SLES10 and OES2 at the same time -
you will have to go via OES2 SP2 (on SLES10 SP3). See TID 7002118 which
whilst written for OES2 to OES2 SP1 will help you get to OES2 SP2. Then
you can use the online OES2 SP3 documentation for OES2 SP2 to OES2 SP3.

If you have follow-up questions I suggest you post them in the OES
(Linux) Install support forum @
http://forums.novell.com/novell-product-discussions/file-networking-services/open-enterprise-server/oes-linux/oes-l-install/

My bad, this to me was a SuSE10 install/upgrade question so I didn’t think it belonged in a OES forum. I was mainly looking to for info on upgrading SuSE10 doing a inplace upgrade to see if there are any gotchas, etc out there that I should be aware of in doing it. Thanks for the info/TID, I will check it out.

Whilst the OS may be SLES10 the addition of OES2 is important - patch
one without also patching the other at the same time will result in a
broken state.

Given that both OES2 SP1 (your current version) and OES2 SP2 (the
intermediate version) are no longer supported I’d be inclined to upgrade
offline using either a SLES10 SP3 boot CD/DVD and pointing at network
installation sources for both SLES10 SP3 and OES2 SP2 or create a
combined SLES10 SP3+OES2 SP2 ISO (use [1] to create the ISO) which can
be burned to a DVD and then used to boot your server.

You should re-register your server once upgraded to then get OES2 SP2
(and SLES10 SP3) patches before then moving on to the OES2 SP3 (SLES10
SP4) upgrade.

For any further help please post in the Novell support forum for OES
(Linux) Install issues.
