Hi,
In Production environment, we having SuSE 10 SP 2,
Sever count is 10
Application: SAP
We are interesting in upgrading this SuSE 10 SP 2 to SuSE 11 SP2
What would be the best possible method to achieve this task?
Do we needs to apply patches sequentially
i.e: SuSE 10 SP3 → SuSE 10 SP4 ->SuSE 11 SP1 → SuSE 11 SP2
or
else is it possible to use the upgrade option in SuSE 11 SP2 DVD and perform installation at one go?
What about the down time in both the options?
regards,

Hi Zerandib,
Upgrading in one go from SLES 10 SP3 to SLES 11 SP2 is not supported unfortunately.
Patching/updating via offline media usually takes +/- 20 to 40 minutes, depending on your hardware and install.

As Willem (magic31) has already said, to get from one SLES version/support
pack to another you have to go via the intermediate versions/support packs.
Unfortunately you missed one step in the sequence you listed above - SLES11
itself (SP0). The correct sequence for you is therefore SLES10 SP2 →
SLES10 SP3 → SLES10 SP4 → SLES11 → SLES11SP1 → SLES11 SP2.
The only alternative to get “directly” from SLES10 SP2 to SLES11 SP2 is to
install a new server as SLES11 SP2 and then migrate configuration/data from
the old SLES10 SP2 server.
