Thunderbird setup for forum usage

I installed Thunderbird for usage in these forums and it’s working well
for reading them (I’d previously just been a web-interface user).
However it complains that I’m not setup correctly when I try to reply to
posts. I’m not using Thunderbird for email at all but do I have to setup
an SMTP server to reply to the forums?
Any help is appreciated.

That’s of no help. When I try to reply to any post I get the following
message: Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server
forums.netiq.com timed out. Try again or contact your network
administrator.

Try Responding to the Forum and not the User.

Novell does not officially monitor these forums.

Suggestions/Opinions/Statements made by me are solely my own.

That’s because this isn’t a mailing list server; there’s no SMTP server
involved.

The server type is “NNTP”.

Ah, I can’t believe I couldn’t figure that out. Thanks so much.

Yes, I have to remember to use “Followup” and not “Reply” when dealing
with the forums!

Do you work with Novell technologies at a university, college or school?
If so, your campus could benefit from joining the Novell Technology
Transfer Partner (TTP) program. See TTP Organization | Micro Focus for more details.

You guys should get a REAL newsreader.
