Why is SUSE charging for it's operating system...

Hello,
My name is Praveen Thomas and I’m from India…

I would like to know why SUSE is charging for it’s operating system because Ubuntu and many other Linux distributions don’t change for it’s operating system and so please tell me why SUSE is charging for it’s operating system. I would like to try SUSE OS and see how it works but before that I would like to know why SUSE is charging for it’s operating system…

I would also like to know why there are two files for download;

  1. SLE-15-SP2-Full-x86_64-GM-Media1.iso
  2. SLE-15-SP2-Full-x86_64-GM-Media2.iso

Do I have to download or install Media1 or Media2?..

What is Media1 and what is Media2?..

Please tell me which file to download because I’m confused…

Thank you

@Praveen Hi and welcome to the Forum :slight_smile:
If you read the information on the download page https://www.suse.com/download/sles/

DVD1 Required for the installation, contains binary packages
DVD2 Source code, only required to rebuild applications on the installer or packages medium.

You pay a subscription fee for updates and support not the initial install media. If your wanting to test you get an evaluation period, plus you might want to wait until the release of SLE 15 SP3 and try that out.

@malcolmlewis
Thank you for replying to my post…
Yes I will wait for the release of SLE 15 SP3 and after that try it out…
Thanks for expaning the download files…
