How to backup and restore cyrus database messages

Hi, I have an enviroment with postfix SMTP server and cyrus POP3/IMAP server, squirrelmail like webaccess (SLES11 SP2). I need to migrate this server to another equipment. I need to know how to backup mailbox database from cyrus and restore it to another server with the similar configuration.

all users has configure SMTP/IMAP server with local pst.

I’d like to know if this option restore/backup cyrus database is possible or no…

thanks

This is not a SLES issue but relates to the third-party Cyrus mail system.
A quick search found
http://www.campworld.net/thewiki/pmwiki.php/LinuxServers/CyrusIMAPMigration
which would seem to suggest a path for migration of data to a new server.

Sorry but we don’t offer direct support.

Hi Vanessa,

from personal experience I support Simons advice of migrating the mailboxes via IMAP technology (you’re practically using a special IMAP client to access both IMAP servers via “admin accounts” to copy all content from the source to the destination IMAP server). “another server with the similar configuration” is simply too vague to tell if a direct migration of configuration & data files can be successful.

When I had to do this about 2 years ago, there where a number of tools and scripts available in the Internet to accomplish this task.

Regards,
Jens

Thanks for your answer… But Is cyrus imap server default imap server in suse???.

If I need support in this service where or who can help me???

Thanks again

Vanessa

Hi Vanessa,

If I need support in this service where or who can help me???

it certainly depends… if you have a support contract for SLES, then you might/could/should open a request. OTOH, we enthusiasts try to help where we can. I suppose Simon wanted to point out that there are plenty of resources “out there” for Cyrus, because it is a subsystem that is not specific to SLES, but widely used…
