how to develope for the sentinel

Hello,
Without development skills its hard to survive with Sentinel class of
products. I experienced a lot of environment/organizations where there
must be at least 2 or 3 products running which
Sentinel does not support.

So having skills to develop Collectors/Connector is a must to work with
Sentinel. Appreciate if someone here help me what path should I take,
any course that I should attend ? any pre-reqs that I should meet before
attending the course.

Please recommend/suggest.

Regards,

Start with the Sentinel SDK:

https://www.novell.com/developer/develop_to_sentinel.html

It would help to develop something so you understand the flow of data from
event source, through connector, then collector, and on into Sentinel. It
may also help to understand the taxonomy:

If you have never programmed before, do so in a few languages. Sentinel
collectors use ECMAscript (JavaScript) so play around with that, either
with starter tutorials from w3schools, or with actual collector code. All
collectors, by nature, can have their code reviewed. Look for the parse()
function and try understanding what it does. From there find the other
functions like normalize(), and for a lot of depth, send() on the Event
object.

Good luck.

Given this is the “no support” chat forum which in this case would seem
to be NetIQ’s Sentinel forum @

Hello Simon,
as my question has nothing to do with “Support” therefore I thought
this might be the right place to discuss.

I think what Simon is trying to say is that the Sentinel forum is for
all things Sentinel. You are most likely to get answers to your
questions by posting in that forum where the people that know and use
Sentinel hang out. Any questions about a specific product will
probably be best handled in that product specific forum. Good luck.

You were fine posting here. Simon was just suggesting that for
anything further, the other forum is probably the best place to find
answers.
