Any tips? Had some trouble with the cloud yml; There are no editors in rancheros by default.
I’m not sure what you mean by “gnome boxes”, but vi is available by default in RancherOS.

Gnome boxes is a simple kvm vm manager. I was having trouble setting up cloud-config.yml. Had to set a password to be able to scp. Now it is fine.
ps: “vi” is hard xP
Interesting project! This is the first time I’ve seen it.
I agree, vi is definitely a little difficult for those not familiar with it. It might be beneficial for RancherOS to include something simpler like nano.
