vga setting in /boot/grub/menu.lst keeps reseting

We are running SLES 11.1 under VMware and everytime there is a kernel
patch for SUSE it resets the vga setting from 0x314 to 0x32b,
and I have no idea where it is getting that setting from or how to
prevent it from happening. Any suggestions?
